꿈의 세계에선 조금 너무 멀어지지 [신화 속 괴물]켄타우로스(Centaurs), 반인반마(半人半馬)로 그려진 켄타우로스 일족은 익시온과 여신 헤라의 모습을 한 구름과의 사이에서 낳았다고도 하고, 또는 그 둘 사이에서 낳은 아들이 페리온산에서 암말과 교접하여 낳았다고도 한다. 그들은 허리까지는 인간의 모습이고, 나머지는 말의 모습을 하고 있다. 그들은 야만적이어서 인간이라기보다는 동물에 가까운 성질이나, 일족 가운데 케이론은 품위있고 지혜로워 많은 영웅의 스승이기도 하다.케이론(키론)은 아폴론과 아르테미스로부터 교육을 받았기 때문에 사냥, 의술, 음악, 예언술에 도통했고 아킬레우스, 아스클레피오스, 이아손, 디오스크로이등의 제자들이 있었습니다. 케이론은 켄타우로스 종족중 가장 슬기롭고 공정했으며 케이론이 죽자 제우스는 그를 인마궁의 별자리로 만들어 주었다.
